Sheila Stacia Scott Maze, age 74, of Akron, Ohio, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025. Born in Akron, Ohio, on August 28, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Bessie Brice. She was one of four children, alongside her siblings Barbara, Carl, and her late sister, also named Sheila.
She grew up in Akron and graduated from Central-Hower High School with the Class of 1969. She continued her education at the University of Akron, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1973.
On April 24, 1976, Sheila married the love of her life, the late Samuel Maze. Together, they built a life rooted in faith and family, raising two children, Jonathan and Sarah, whom she cherished deeply.
Sheila was a passionate and faithful member of Arlington Church of God, where she dedicated decades of her life to service and ministry. She gave of herself wholeheartedly—editing the church’s newsletter The Exodus, contributing her skills to the accounting team, and extending her home in hospitality. She was recognized many times for her devotion, receiving honors such as the Distinguished Service Award (1987), the Servanthood Award (1997), the Women of the Church of God Award (2000), and the Arlington Men’s Fellowship Appreciation Award (2002).
Her gift of hospitality extended beyond the church walls. During the years when her children were in college, Sheila welcomed Japanese exchange students from the University of Akron into her home, offering them warmth, encouragement, and a family atmosphere while they were far from their own.
Sheila will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. She lived her life with joy, compassion, and excellence, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Jonathan and Sarah Maze; her siblings Barbara and Carl; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Samuel; her sister Sheila; and her mother, Bessie.
A celebration of Sheila’s life will be held on Monday, September 29, 2025, at Arlington Church of God in Akron, Ohio, where family and friends are warmly invited to gather in her memory.
