Peggy Ann Gary

August 10, 1947 — February 1, 2026

Akron

Peggy Ann Gary was born into this world on August 10, 1947 in Fulton, Mississippi to Coy Gates Sr and Flora (Stone) Gates. She went home to be with the Lord February 1st, 2026. She graduated from South High School and from Hammel Business College where she obtained a diploma. She worked at the Akron City Water Department, Hower High School, and the Radio station AM 1220 WGAR. After her children were born, she would take a hiatus from working and was a stay at home mom. Once her children became teenagers, she entered back into the workforce at Summa Healthcare Insurance, where she would eventually retire.

Peggy was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, auntie and friend. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. At the age of 5, she learned to play the piano. She began her early Christian education at Bethel Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Gordon A. Humphrey, and sang in the infamous Bethel choir. She continued growing in faith while attending New Trinity Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor James R. Bradley and Pastor Willie M. Jackson. She served as the Music Director, both directing the choir and playing the piano. She would then play for both Mt. Sinai Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Wadsworth. Later in life she would join Second Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Frank L. Hearns and Pastor I.T. Bradley.

Peggy married Deacon Willie Lee Gary and had 2 children in this union, while also inheriting a wonderful extended family. They were married for over 13 years until the Lord called Willie home. Years later she married Pastor Marvin-Phillip Morris and they remained married for 5 years.

Peggy was beloved and respected by all. She was a caring and loving person who had a gift of making you feel special. Many of her children’s friends, if not all of them had a special relationship with her. She had the unique ability to know if something was wrong with young people personally. Peggy provided her home as a safe place and was considered the cool mom and a 2nd mom to many. If you were hungry, she made sure you were fed. She shared whatever she had, even if it was her last.

Peggy was a great cook and baker, and was known for making her grandmother’s famous Banana Pudding, Sweet Potato Pies and Amalgamation Cake or as she called it “Magamation Cake”. A relaxing day at home would include her TV shows, such as Murder She Wrote, Matlock, and Perry Mason. She also loved her British TV shows, especially murder mysteries. If you ever wanted to make her day, all you would have to say is, “Get dressed mama, I’m taking you to Cracker Barrel.”

Peggy is preceded in death by mother, Flora Gates; father, Coy Gates Sr.; husband, Willie Lee Gary; former husband, Marvin Phillip Morris; brother, Coy Gates Jr; special aunts, LueDella Reid and Mildred Gladney; daughter in law and friend, Margaret (Peggy) Gary and Step Daughter and friend, Carolyn (Jeanie) Green.

She leaves to cherish her memory: son, Fulton (Andrea) Gary; daughter, Nydia Gary; step son, W. Ronald Gary; grandchildren, Nia, Jonathan, Kymberlyn, Carla, Crystal (Randy), Tony, Valerie (Myron), Robert, Coreion, Briana, and Corhan; Sister, Paulette (Roger) Clemons; Aunts, Lydia Beasley and Yvonne Holley; nieces and nephews, Regina Wilson, Stephen Clemons, Tonya Gates, London Gates and Cheriece (David) Bell;, and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends…
