We, the family are mournful to announce the tragic passing of Narlon Lamar Portis affectionately known as Skeeter on May 10th, 2025. Skeeter, a cherished son, devoted father, protective brother, loving uncle,caring nephew and faithful friend to all who knew him.
For 52 years, Skeeter left us with wonderful memories that touched the hearts of his family and friendswhich will never be forgotten. Skeeter was born on April 6, 1973, in Akron, Ohio. Skeeter grew up in aloving household filled with love from his mother Judith Nurse, the apple of his eye and his sister Nicole Portis.
Skeeter attended King Elementary and Central-Hower High in Akron Public schools. Skeeter played football for the South Rangers Football Team (pee wee) as well as playing football for Central Hower High School where he also ran track.
Skeeter was an Akron native who loved to travel and also made his home in Las Vegas and Texas.
Skeeter was an avid sports enthusiast who loved The Ohio State Buckeyes. Skeeter was a perfectionist who maintained his athletic build. Skeeter was an avid bodybuilder continuing to exercise to maintain his slim muscular physique. Skeeter was a devoted son to his mother, always there to aid and comfort her.
Skeeter, a brave soul who had many enlightening conversations, prayed and was grateful to the Lord for his children, grandchildren, mother, family and friends.
Skeeter’s presence will surely be missed. Skeeter leaves to cherish and honor his memory his mother Judith Nurse, father Gregory Portis Sr (Elaine), Children Qwalon Oden, Jumacius Portis, Roytavia Galvin, Ronin Kelly. Grandchildren Kiair Davis, Cardeair Galvin, Mykaleiyah, Ny’eiyah, My’Layah, and Aniyah. Sisters Nicole Portis, Ursula (Devon) Taylor, Janae Portis and Dawnisha Portis, and brother Gregory (Sara) Portis Jr., niece Jessica Portis, special niece Jurnee Portis, nephews Jalen Portis, Jamar McGordon, Ja’Vante McGordon, Jamarcus Keaton, aunt Rhonda Portis-Mallard, uncle Thomas (Denise) Portis, many cousins.
Best friend brother Joe Lewis, significant other Stephanie Oden, special friends, Loryn Manley and Denise Ingol. Skeeter also leaves behind a host of other family and friends.
Skeeter was preceded in death by great grandmother Mae Maulden, grandfather Charles Nurse, grandmother Duetta Nurse, grandmother who loved him dearly Betty Portis, grandfather T.H. Portis, Aunts Stephanie Nurse, Alice Nurse, Jackie Nurse, uncle Sam Nurse, cousin Duetta Nurse.
Skeeter had many challenges in his life; however, he had worked hard to put these barriers behind him. Skeeter was working two jobs, recently purchasing a van and living an independent free life. While Skeeter’s sudden and untimely departure from this earthly realm has left a profound void in the hearts of those who knew, adored and loved him. His legacy will continue to shine brightly in the lives of his children and grandchildren.
Skeeter may be gone from this earth, but never from our hearts.
