Lennell Anthony Beverly Shropshire, affectionately known as “Tony,” was born on June 14, 1970, in
Akron, Ohio, to his loving parents, Jeanette Beverly Watson and Felton Shropshire. He was 55 years
old at the time of his transition.
Tony spent his early years in Detroit, Michigan, and later moved to Dallas, Texas, as a teenager to
live with his father, where he attended and graduated from public schools. Known as a hardworking
man and a true Southern gentleman, Tony is remembered for his country sayings and his kind heart.
While living in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Tony turned his heart fully toward God and began faithfully
attending church, where he was baptized and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. Not long after,
he received a cancer diagnosis. In his final days, Tony returned home to be surrounded by family. He
transitioned peacefully on February 25, 2026, surrounded by love, worship music, and the
comforting presence of family. We rejoice in knowing he was welcomed into Heaven with open arms
and everlasting love.
Tony was preceded in death by his brother, Dontay Beverly Shropshire; nephews, Tevin Lennell
Beverly and Jawann Beverly Jr.; niece, Gabriel Beverly; great-grandparents, Adell and Columbus
Vinson and Loretta and James Shropshire; grandparents, Charles Beverly, Sr. and Mary Beverly
Vinson, Barbara (Burt) Lee Griffin Jones, and Willard (Marie) Shropshire Sr.; uncles, Charles Beverly
Jr., Samuel Vinson, Willard “Hucklebuck” Shropshire Jr., Donahue Shropshire, Theodore Shropshire,
Herman Loftin, and Quincy Thomas; aunts, Adell Ward, Charlie Mae Jones, Dorothy Fisher, Effie
Beverly, Sandra Vinson, Mary Jo Beverly, Truly Shropshire, Towanda Lee Nurse, and Kim Thomas;
and his godmother, Susie Monette.
Tony leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Jeanette Beverly Watson of Akron, Ohio, and his
father, Felton Shropshire of Lithonia, Georgia; his son, Lennell Beverly Jr. of Dallas, Texas; and his
granddaughter, Amriana Kanise Beverly of Dallas, Texas.
He is lovingly remembered by his sisters, Deshounn Beverly, Natasha Shropshire Nelson,
An’Jeanette Beverly, Danielle Beverly, and Nakita Beverly, all of Akron, Ohio; his brother, Jawann
Beverly Sr. of Akron, Ohio; and his brother-cousin, Deon Beverly of Detroit, Michigan.
His memory will also be cherished by his aunts, Sandra Woodard, Dorothea Williams, and Sheila
–
Loftin, all of Akron, Ohio; Betty “Penny” Patterson and Francine Loftin of Detroit, Michigan; Charlene
Beverly and Charlette Beverly of New York; and Marthia Shropshire of Phoenix, Arizona; his uncles,
Philip Hughes and Larry Shropshire of Akron, Ohio; Jimmy Shropshire and William (Bill) Shropshire
of Detroit, Michigan; and Willie Fred of New York.
Tony is also remembered by his stepdaughter, Zayia Fleming; his stepbrother, Christ Monette; and
his stepsister, Evetta Monette, all of Dallas, Texas. He shared a special bond with Mama Cindy Boyd
of Akron, Ohio and his favorite cousin, Denise Patterson of Detroit, Michigan. He is fondly
remembered by the extended Griffin family of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Phoenix, Arizona.
Tony’s life was enriched by many close friendships. He leaves behind his best friends, Emory
“Boom” Henry, Cedric Butler, Torry Nelson, James Higgins, Patrice, and James Todd; along with his
longtime friends, Shurloma Fleming and Shonnette (Paul) Christopher, all of Dallas, Texas,
A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends will forever cherish his
memory as well.
