Jerald Anthony Smith went home to be with the Lord on February 8, 2026. He was born on May 6, 1956 to Russell J. Smith, Sr. and Mildred C. Smith.
He was a devoted family man whose greatest joy came from time spent with his loved ones. Known for his willingness to help in any way he could, Jerald was dependable, loving and an amazing protector. He carried a remarkable strength throughout his life, facing challenges with courage and determination, never giving up no matter the circumstances. His resilience inspired those around him and his smile was extremely contagious.
Jerald was a well known passionate fan of the Cleveland Browns, faithfully supporting his teams through every season. One of his most proud accomplishments was learning the skill of riding motorcycles. Being able to join his son and others while riding gave him pure joy.
Above all, Jerald was a loyal and loving husband to his wife, Cynthia Smith, whom he cherished deeply. Their bond was rooted in commitment, devotion, and love.
He was preceded in death by his parents Russell J. Smith, Sr. and Mildred C. Smith his sister Alicia C. Smith, daughter Marty Smith, son Deonte’ Burnette, granddaughter Carmella Holly, and cousin Willie Griggs
Jerald is survived by his wife, Cynthia Smith; his siblings Russell J. Smith, Jr. (Yvonne); Carolyn A. Brown (Jeffrey Knott); Terrence O. Smith (Shelle); Amberle Burnette of Columbus; and Deon (Alice) Draper
Children Jerald Tolliver, Richard Smith, Darnell Taylor, Derick Smith, Keith Smith, Kyra Smith, Jerald Powell, Jacoby Smith, Ja’Lisa Burnette, Janessa Burnette and Jayhaiana Frasier. A host of grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Jerald will be remembered for his big heart, unwavering loyalty, and the genuine care he showed to everyone he encountered. His memory will live on through the family he loved, the lives he touched, and the example he set for others.
Cindy would like to take the time to express her gratitude and appreciation to the Nurses of tower 3, his (Bestie) Art Therapist Katie, a special thanks to our guardian angel Nurse Chaya and also to Don for being my voice when I felt unheard.
To Deb, Jennifer, Tiffany Kramer, Jennifer Pettinger and Ed Maddox. We all started this journey together we shared moments of laughter, tears and prayers, but most importantly you all have supported us with the calls, texts, and visits and for that I appreciate and love you all. Thank you.
